The Challenge
After reviewing the professional development needs of municipal managers and elected officials across Nova Scotia, AMANS identified a need for leadership development for municipalities. They asked us to develop training workshops that provide the skills needed for effective municipal governance and administration.

The Process
We researched, designed and developed five skills-based two-day workshops, creating the facilitator guides and participant manuals for each workshop. The workshops covered transferable skills (e.g., team-building, facilitation, change management and communication) and technical skills (e.g., how to read financial statements, how to prepare a municipal budget).
The workshops feature case studies that enable municipal managers and elected officials to explore issues they encounter in their roles. They also include activities and group discussions that leverage participants’ real-world experiences into learning opportunities.

- Developing and inspiring staff
- Effective decision-making
- Diplomacy and managing conflict
The Result
Leadership development for municipalities workshops gave municipal government staff and elected officials across Nova Scotia the critical knowledge and skills to lead the province more effectively.
